Part of the Community
for over 30 years
Twain Harte Market is grateful for their loyal customers and supporters. We take pride in sustaining and building a strong community. And yes, we definitely walk the talk!
At Twain Harte Market we have supported our local FFA and 4H students for many years by purchasing hogs at the county fair. We then process the hogs and select a local charity for a raffle. This creates a win/win. The students are rewarded and a local charity keeps 100% of the proceeds for raffling off the hog to raise money for their organization. Tens of thousands of dollars has been raised in Tuolumne County non-profits with the Twain Harte Market hog raffle.
In addition Twain Harte Market has supported the Tuolumne County branch of Habitat for Humanity with donations, sponsorships, and support of their fundraising activities. We were instrumental in getting the first house built down in Columbia.
Continuously year after year, Twain Harte Market has sponsored a performance of Sierra Repertory Theatre. We have also sponsored special events, and many of their fundraising activities.
Not only that, Twain Harte Market has supported our local food bank, ATCAA every year. At holiday times, thousands of dollars of donations are given so families can enjoy holiday meals. During the Rim Fire of 2013, Twain Harte Market coordinated over $15,000 of food donations for the Red Cross evacuation center and the food bank.
Every day, Twain Harte Market sponsors the See’s Candy sales for the Soroptimist’s of Twain Harte. 100% of the proceeds (up to $10,000/year) go to their scholarship program.
Twain Harte Market supports our local schools and non-profits by our donations every year. A partial list includes: Humane Society of Tuolumne County, Sonora Cat Rescue, Sierra Non Profit Services, Friends of the Tuolumne County Library, Stage 3, Women’s Resource Center, Watch, ICES, Black Hat, Crystal Falls Fire Auxiliary, Re Horse Rescue, Twain Harte Rotary, and many others.
Preserving the Environment
Twain Harte Market is passionately committed to recycling and reducing waste. We are constantly looking at ways of diverting waste from the land fill and redirecting the waste to reusable products.
We reuse our pallets with a return program to our vendors. We recycle up to 75 pallets every week.
In addition, we have been working hard at reducing our own carbon footprint. Since, 2010, we have cut our energy bill in half. We have done this by installing a computerized energy management system and changing our lighting inside the store.
We have worked hard to extend our green reach beyond our own company to that of our suppliers. For many years, we have consolidated shipments from multiple vendors in the bay area. So instead of four or five trucks driving up the hill, there is only one.
Utilizing local vendors is another way Twain Harte Market reduces our carbon footprint. We like to include local vendors from Tuolumne, Calaveras, and Amador County in our store whenever we can. Examples are: Cover’s, Calaveras Olive Oil, Murphy’s Mustard, Sciabica’s Olive Oil, Hippie Stix, Dambacher Farms, Buzzbees Honey, Tuolumne Honey Company, Indigeny and many others. Twain Harte Market carries the largest selection of local wines in our county.
Every week we recycle:
